For rarepair_shorts for the prompt: let the tempest howl
Disclaimer(s):
Canon Statement:  Canon comes from eight sources, which include JKR’s Harry Potter series of books and thanfiction’s Dumbledore’s Army and the Year of Darkness.  All HP characters belong to JKR and her associates.  The characterizations and pairings belong to thanfiction.  All the rest (minimal that it may be) belong to me.
  Expect SPOILERS for both.
Rating: R, Word Count: 944 (not including introduction and author’s notes)
Summary: see introduction below.  This incident follows the extensive graffiti the DA have left all around Hogwarts in the early part of the 7th year term.
Author's Notes:
This takes place during the 7th year at Hogwarts while Harry was off on his Horcrux hunt.  Many of the situations described, including the violence and character deaths are from both DH and DA.  Canon has been followed for both books unless otherwise noted.  Beta by thanfiction

Introduction to prompts 2-13:

Hogwarts was not the happy place it had been for the previous six years.  Now with Severus Snape as Headmaster and Death Eaters not only welcomed through the portcullis, but also responsible for teaching classes as well as the discipline and punishment, it was a very different place.  Sometimes, life at the castle was insufferable, but Neville Longbottom reformed the DA and they met in secret, training for the day that they would face Voldemort and possibly sacrifice themselves.

These prompts follow the “missing moments” from the seventh year for Neville’s lieutenant, Ernie Macmillan and his relationship with fellow DA member Susan Bones.

HELP - HP FIC QUESTION

  • Jul. 21st, 2008 at 11:22 PM
hogwarts with dragon

I've actually made this mistake before - I want my male character standing behind a tree next to the lake at Hogwarts.  I always make it a willow tree, but it is obviously not the whomping willow unless there's some euphemism I'm not familiar with (with is a definite possibility), so what tree could he stand behind or possibly climb that would work on the Hogwarts grounds, have shade cover (if it were daylight and we cared about such things) and would do well next to the lake.
Also, do we know who was Head Boy and Head Girl or any of the prefects from Harry's non-existent 7th year.  Or call it Neville's 7th year.

Thanks all.

Too Geeky for Flashlights

We had massive thunderstorms last night, and our power went out.  Do we have flashlights?  No, of course not, but the geeky family we are has this instead:    a Green Lantern power battery.  We also used a light saber from Star Wars, and some glow in the dark princess toy from McDonald's.  I wish I were making this stuff up. :-D

Fairy Vomit Smells Like Flowers

I was in Borders the other day, and I was reading the staff recommendations, which I not only never read, I never listen to.  When I read the above quote, I picked up the book: The Good Fairies of New York by Martin Millar, introduction by Neil Gaiman, and read the back cover, which I will transcribe here:

"When a pair of fugitive Scottish thistle fairies end up transplanted to Manhattan by mistake, both the Big Apple and the Little People have a lot of adjusting to do.  Heather and Morag just want to start the first radical fairy punk rock band, but first they'll have to make a match between two highly unlikely sweethearts; start a street brawl between rival gangs of Italian, Chinese, and African fairies; help the ghost of a dead rocker track down his lost guitar; reclaim a rare triple-bloomed Welsh poppy from a bag lady with delusions of grandeur; disrupt a local community performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream; and somehow manage to stay sober enough to save all of New York from an invasion of evil Cornish fairies.

If they can stop feuding with each other, that is."

Well, duh...Of course, I bought the book.

Writer's Block: One Sentence about Me - Ha!

Try to describe yourself in one sentence.

One sentence could not possibly do justice to the vastness of my personality; the simple, yet complex nature that is me, self-deprecating and humble that I am.

Well, flist, help me out.  The Alarm has put out a new CD called Guerrilla Tactics, or so the radio station tells me.  I have gone to Target, Best Buy, and Borders, and they don't even have it in their computers.  HELP ME!  Where can I find this album?  I'm actually willing to order online, which I don't normally do.  It came out July 8th.

ETA: [info]ragdoll has come through - thank you!

Okay, so this is for the exactly two people on my flist who might be interested.

Drabbles

I’m posting the drabbles from my drabble challenge, and I have to say that these actually did what they were supposed to do. luvscharlie ’s inspired a new one-shot that I can’t talk about because it will be anonymous, [info]thanfiction inspired an entire series for  [info]rarepair_shorts, and  [info]phil_urich got me to write Percy as a main character for the first time.  These 100 word drabbles are so much harder than they sound.  It’s either feast or famine, so now I’m off to write the new inspired pieces and outline poor Fred, who is getting pissy in the wings asking why, with his handsome good looks and impish personality, he is being pushed aside for Ernie Macmillan, an effing Hufflepuff.  *Fred shakes his head in wonderment.*  One note on these drabbles, the last one is from another time, but it was probably my first for someone, and I just love how it came out.  Enjoy.  I did.

My Musical Taste is Unusual, At Best

  • Jul. 18th, 2008 at 7:45 AM

Okay, so I got this from [info]ritaskleinewelt and at best, I obviously did not listen to the popular songs, which doesn't surprise me - Where's Berlin and The Stray Cats on this list?  I have a warm place in my heart for The Stray Cats, and I confused the second to last song with The Stroke, which for some reason I really like.  Go figure.  I'm not sure which is more unusual for my musical tastes - that I really like Prince or that I bolded Quiet Riot and Billy Squier.  Peter Frampton is also not on this list.  Or Andy Gibb (who died before most of you were born).  I like to think I've grown in 24 years (G-d, did I just say 24 years?), but I think my current favorite song would have to be Pork and Beans by Weezer and anything ever put together by Flogging Molly.  Oh, and Love Me Dead by Ludo.  You must watch that video, so I will link it here.  Go there right now.  I said right now!

- Go to musicoutfitters.com http://musicoutfitters.com/
- Enter the year you graduated from high school in the search function and get the list of 100 most popular songs of that year.
- Bold the songs you like, strike through the ones you hate and underline your favorites. Do nothing to the ones you don't remember/care about.

If there are one or more people on your friends list who make your world a better place just because they exist, and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the Internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

A Line Has Been Crossed

  • Jul. 16th, 2008 at 11:10 PM

I've crossed a line today.  Not the line where I refuse to use a credit card in McDonald's because the day I cross that line is the day I quit Mickey D's cold turkey.  No, this was the line where I walk into Starbuck's at 9:30 at night and the girl behind the counter asks where I've been because I haven't been in.  Now, I go quite a bit, but it's maybe twice a week depending on when hubby gets paid, but I don't go to the same one - at least, I wouldn't consider myself a regular at this one (even though it was my first Starbuck's, so it holds a special place in my heart or at least on my taste buds), but apparently I am.  A regular, that is.  I don't know if I should be flattered or join a 12-step program.  It might be time to get a re-loadable gift card.
