What this means is that ALL of my personal posts are friends' locked.  The fics will re-open in January.  The existing posts about my trip to Wales have re-opened.  In the meantime, go to my page at fanfiction.net if you want to read the stories.

Comments to this entry will no longer be screened, so if you wish to be friended, ask and here is where you may tell me where I know you from and what it is that interests you in my journal.  I should state that I don't automatically friend back, never have and that policy will continue.  It is nothing personal.  It has nothing to do with you or with me being an arrogant prat.  It's the Internet.  We were all strangers at some point.

This is also my policy for Twitter.  If you sign up to follow me there, comment here as well.

The above photo of Dolwyddelan Castle in Gwynedd (or Conwy), Wales taken by me on my recent trip there.  You may view other photos of this and other Welsh castles at www.castlewales.com.  Go there to view and read about their history.

Master List of fics by ceirdwenfc

I have begun to re-open the fics on my journal. If you can't wait, you can go to fanfiction.net, link somewhere at left. The Master List got all screwy, I don't know why, so this is the new master list. It will not be listed by year, but will hopefully contain all of the fics housed here on this journal (and some that are housed elsewhere). This will take some time, so if there's something you remember that now you can't see, just drop me a line. Chances are I will re-open it for you.

This statement will serve as the copyright notice for all fics listed. If they have been included on this master list (unless otherwise notated), they are assumed to have (c) ceirdwenfc (or other pseudonyms associated with me) 2010. Any fics posted prior to this copyright notification will have their year of copyright/publication next to their link below.

Het pairings are listed by male name/female name and are alphabetical by male first name (Professor McGonagall and Rose Weasley are the exceptions to this. I really don't know why that is.

Separated by Gen Fic, Pairings. Tagged as community written for, next gen, copyright year, may eventually have ratingsCollapse )

Tea and Friendship - An Introduction

I'm crossposting this here as well.

To preface the blog post, Andy sent five of us samples of teas that Brittany loved, for us to sample. The only request was that it be a quiet time to drink tea "with Brittany" or in honor or memory of Brittany and to blog about it.

My teas arrived yesterday and I couldn't get out of the post office parking lot without jotting down some first thoughts.

I cleaned them up a bit this morning. I'll share other blog posts as they happen.

A Cup of FriendshipCollapse )

The Friday Five

1. If you were given one million dollars, on the condition that you had to give half of it away, how would you go about giving away half a million dollars?

With that $640 million Mega Millions jackpot, I've actually thought about this. I'm assuming that in giving it away, I can't keep it for my kids' college educations since that would stay in the household, so.....
1/2 a million isn't actually a lot considering how many people I'd like to help.
Charities would include: American Diabetes Association, Planned Parenthood, Local Domestic Violence Shelter, Local Volunteer Fire Department, St. Jude's, CBLDF.
Personal friends - not naming them, but Friend 1 - enough money to spend a year truly doing what he wants without worry, Friend 2 - pay her student loans so she can start over, Siblings - about $25,000 each. If there was anything left, I'd have to see which of my friends needed it the most.

2. Do you write letters or send cards to anyone via the postal system regularly, only for special occasions such as birthdays, or not at all?
Regularly? Not really, but sometimes I'll grab a card for no reason and send it to someone. I do try to do it for birthdays and Christmas.

3. What is the most treasured memento you have kept?
I have several actually. A rock from a Welsh castle, Bob, a dream catcher, a tea cup that m_oquinn made, others I'm sure - just can't think at the moment.

4. If one of your friends phones you at 4am because they are depressed and upset, but you have an important job interview in the morning. What do you do?
Talk to my friend for as long as they need. If they're calling me at 4am, obviously that can't wait and I have done this, and others have done it for me.

5. What is the phrase or quote that sums up who you are as a person?
I think I'm a good friend. I think that I put people first. I know sometimes, I complain about that part, always being second, but I truly like being the reliable one who everyone can come to with anything and know that even if I can't help, that I care and no matter what they do, I will still love them. I'm not sure what that is exactly, but I think that is who I am.

(While there was a catalyst for this essay, this has been sitting in the dark parts of my mind waiting for an outlet.)

A Millionaire's Surtax

Is a millionaire/billionaire's surtax fair?
Fuck, no, it's not fair.
But it is necessary.
Maybe we should have paid for two wars and a prescription drug plan for seniors and those millionaires' tax cuts, President Bush.
Now, it is time to pay it back.
... But besides that, Democrats, you said we need it, you vowed to get it, President Obama promised a veto without it.
So find your fucking balls and shut down the government. Yes, the week before Christmas. Reps. Boehner and Cantor are playing stupid games because they KNOW you'll back down and cave AGAIN.

In the long run, standing up now will help more people than you realize.
Let John Boehner help his community when the government shuts down. There are plenty of unemployed in his district. Help them.
I'm giving money to the City Mission and I can't afford it because it's the right thing to do. I'm not extraordinary.
Millionaires can, and should, do more and Congress (and some unnamed governors) should remember what public servant actually means.
Title: Yes, Facing the Executioner Would Be Easier
Rating: PG
WIP/Length: Complete/2267
Main Characters/Pairings:Augusta Longbottom, Hannah Abbott
Warnings: None
Spoilers: Entire daydverse as well as any one-shots related to Neville&Hannah
Summary: This was requested almost two years ago, and was supposed to be a quick glimpse into the relationship between Neville's (soon-to-be) wife and his Grandmother. I expected it to be about 500 words and real life pushed it aside. In that time, the bunny grew and without warning returned. This was not beta'd, so constructive criticism is welcome. I also have a problem with commas. I'm in a 12 step program.
Takes place in 2002, before Neville and Hannah's wedding.
This is a gift for my friend, thanfiction . I hope he enjoys it and it is what he was expecting.

I wanted to take a moment to draw your attention to the Daydverse community here on LJ. The completion/publication of Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness was the beginning of a diverse community that gets together and meets, writes fic and draws art, celebrates the holidays in ways only the Internet can allow you to. Today, I've posted the third chapter of the 100 Prompts project, not to mention our contests and social contact.

Click the link to visit the general community and see what's new or click the title of my fic that is a tiny glimpse into part of Ernie and Susan's Christmas holiday during 7th year (and part of the Bittersweet story.)

Excess (part of 100 Prompts)

The Other Side of the Wank

I have been silent (for the most part) on this subject, and this has been a long time coming. I know that many people here have strong feelings about this and I can't do anything about that except to say that I respect your feelings and I truly don't want to lose any more friends, but Andrew Blake is my friend. He will always be my friend. An issue arose a week or so ago that affected another friend of mine, and that was when I knew that I needed to speak out.

Before I do that, though, I want to be clear on the ground rules here.

1. This is my journal, and this will be an OPEN post.
2. All comments will be screened, but my anticipation is that all comments will eventually be unscreened. Exceptions to this will be solely at my discretion. Try to avoid scare quotes and George Carlin's 7 words and you should be okay.
3. All IP addresses will be logged, and subsequently deleting your comment will not remove it from my email inbox.
4. Having seen comments elsewhere, please note: ANY comment that *I* perceive to be a threat or threatening in any way will immediately be referred to the Cyber Unit of my State Police Troop. I will not play games with LJ Abuse or ask you to tone it down. This is your warning.

Rating: R
WIP/Length: ?/523
Main Characters/Pairings: Sorry, wait until the end
Warnings: one swear word, descriptions of torture
Spoilers: Simpler (and spoiler free) to say entire daydverse
Summary: Written for thanfiction 's 24 hour mini-contest, prompt of Journey.
Author's Notes: I wasn't going to do this. Then dave_agnew posted something on Twitter and I cursed his name, and then I woke up at 5:02 this morning, and I really cursed his name. I hope it's not too disjointed. This is still before I usually get up.

Never Forget

September 11, 2001

Posted via m.livejournal.com.

Sep. 6th, 2011

In as much as you have done it to the least of my brethren, you have done it to me.

Makes You Think

I know my views have changed over the years (mostly, I think for the better), but at what point did I begin agreeing with Rev. Al Sharpton?

And since we've stepped into politics briefly, Lawrence O'Donnell, you mischaracterized Gov. Christie's interview with David Gregory yesterday and tried to make him look like a hypocrite. He doesn't need your help, so stay honest.

Writing and Marketing

How do I market a local/regional travel book to a national audience at a writer's conference?

'one more step and i'll fall'

This was taken from liebedance  :

One little compliment can make you feel amazing.

So give me a compliment, anything in the entire world, even that my shoelaces are pretty.  Put this in your journal (if you like), so I can return the favor.  And once you get some comments, put that entry in a memory or tag so that when you are feeling down, you can go to that entry for a quick pick-me-up and a smile.

I could really use this today.

Comments are screened.
